Georgia is facing what may turn out to be the biggest summer Covid year in two years, driven in large part by the latest, highly contagious variants.
Dr. Luke Lathrop, an emergency room physician and chief medical officer at SmartMED Drive-Thru in Roswell said he is seeing all of these symtoms during this surge of COVID, but says sore throat, fatgue and fever have been especially common this summer.

Drive-thru health clinics find market in post-pandemic healthcare
ROSWELL, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - It’s peak flu season and the CDC says it’s been a bad one.
“It’s been a big, bad flu season,” said Dr. Luke Lathrop of SmartMED Drive-Thru Medical Care. “There’s been a lot of strep this year.”
Based on CDC maps and reporting, the southern U.S. has been hit especially hard, which is why a new drive-thru healthcare model is getting more popular.
“We’re not sitting in a waiting room,” said Amy Leachman, mother of three. “We’re not sitting in a room to wait.”
She’s a prime demographic for the burgeoning drive-thru healthcare model.
Dr. Lathrop is familiar with the Leachmans. He and his wife, Stacy Lathrop, own SmartMED, born out of the pandemic and a question of convenience.
“We come here regularly when there’s a sickness,” Leachman said. “Why are we going inside to see the doctor when the doctor can come outside to see us?”
It’s a philosophy that’s gained traction with patients looking to be seen quickly for illnesses and pains. What could be an hours-long wait at an urgent care is often minutes at a drive-thru clinic.

ROSWELL, Ga. — With winter setting in, doctors are seeing a growing number cases of illnesses like COVID-19, RSV and the flu. The confluence of these seasonal illnesses can pack doctors offices and fill up urgent care clinics.
That's why thousands of patients are trying a new alternative - a drive-thru clinic.
At one such clinic in Roswell, SmartMed Drive-Thru Medical Care, there have been long lines every day. One doctor at the full-service drive-thru clinic said he recently saw 100 patients in only five hours.
