Frequently asked questions

Semaglutide is an appetite suppressant, administered weekly by subcutaneous injection. Semaglutide activates GLP-1 receptors in the brain, which stimulate insulin secretion and reduce glucagon secretion when blood glucose levels are elevated. It also slows the stomach’s process of moving food to the large intestine, causing the stomach to feel “full” longer.

Semaglutide is one of the only medications to demonstrate weight loss results that are on par with bariatric surgery. Patients report a significantly reduced appetite, as well as fewer sugar cravings.

Tirzepatide is a prescription medication used for weight loss and blood sugar management. It works by activating both GLP-1 and GIP receptors—two hormones involved in appetite control and metabolism. Because it targets two pathways, tirzepatide may help patients experience greater appetite suppression and weight reduction compared to older single-hormone medications. It is commonly prescribed for individuals who qualify for medical weight management and is administered as a once-weekly injection.

GLP-1 injections work by:

  • Slowing stomach emptying so you feel full longer

  • Reducing hunger signals in the brain

  • Stabilizing blood sugar levels

  • Decreasing cravings and emotional eating

This combination helps patients consume fewer calories without feeling deprived, making weight loss more achievable and sustainable.

At SmartMED, we offer both:

Semaglutide Injections: A once-weekly GLP-1 medication that helps reduce appetite and support steady weight loss.
Tirzepatide Injections: A dual-action GLP-1/GIP medication that may enhance metabolic effects for some patients.

Our medical team helps determine which option is best based on your health history, goals, and response to treatment.

Weight loss results vary by individual, starting weight, dosage, and lifestyle habits. Many patients lose between 10–20% of their body weight over time when combined with proper nutrition and medical supervision. Your provider will create a personalized treatment plan based on your goals and health history.

At SmartMED, you will have a dedicated GLP-1 nurse who will partner with you.  The service includes pre-dosed medication, complimentary check-ins where we provide guidance and address any concerns that you may have, and recommendations on adjustments that may be needed.

We believe in a patient being medically monitored while on the medication to ensure your safety.  Complimentary check-ins give us an opportunity to do that.

To determine your candidacy, the physician will review your medical history and get back to you within one business day.

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide medications have been extensively studied for safety and effectiveness. Like any medication, they can have side effects. The most common include nausea, mild stomach discomfort, or constipation, especially during dose increases. A medical provider will monitor your progress to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Many patients notice appetite changes within the first few weeks. Visible weight loss often begins within the first month, with continued progress over several months as dosage increases and lifestyle habits improve.
